An orphan raised by his adoptive parents, Harold had very humble beginnings, nevertheless he always maintained a great ambition in life and a will to make his mark. After finishing his service with the merchant navy, Harold worked for Dibbins, a builders merchant in Weymouth, where he met many great tradesmen. After being laid off due to the companies mismanagement (and collapse), he had a vision of supplying all of the tradesmen he had met with the materials they needed. He knew that with the right attitude and the right team, he could provide an exemplary service. The rest is history. Over 40 years of it!

Ever supportive and certainly not afraid to get her hands dirty and muck in, the lovely Jean Doonan (Harold’s Wife) stood beside Harold back when he first took the plunge and has remained there ever since.
Lee Doonan

Harold’s son and the company’s prided batcher, Lee has worked tirelessly at Doonans since he was 16 and is integral to ensuring the great quality of our product. Lee is an avid scooterist and has a great rapport with many of our customers.
